New recycling wheelie bins delivered from mid-July
During the summer months households across West Oxfordshire will receive a blue-lidded wheelie bin in readiness for a new recycling service starting in October 2017.
The new wheelie bin will be used to collect most recycling materials, except for glass which will be collected from householders' existing black boxes.
From October, the recycling service will become fortnightly, alternating with household rubbish collections. (Food waste will still be collected every week).
In addition, small electrical items such as kettles, hairdryers and mobile phones will be recycled at the kerbside.
There will be no changes to fortnightly household rubbish and none to weekly food collections and a garden waste service will continue to be provided to residents that purchase a licence.
A letter explaining the October service changes will be sent to residents during the week beginning 10 July.
Cllr Carol Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “These changes will mark a major improvement in our service and should help boost recycling rates still further.
“But it is important that residents familiarise themselves with what is new to ensure the changeover happens as smoothly as possible.”
The new service will be run by Ubico, a local authority-owned company.
