Tenancy deposit protection scheme
If you rent your home on an assured shorthold tenancy that started after 6 April 2007, your landlord must put your deposit in one of the following tenancy deposit protection schemes:
These government-backed schemes guarantee you’ll get your deposit back if you:
- meet the terms of your tenancy agreement
- don’t damage the property
- pay your rent and bills.
The Council's deposit guarantee scheme, where we cover a deposit through a bond, will not be affected by the tenancy deposit protection scheme because no money passes to the landlord.
