Weekly food waste recycling

Order a kitchen caddy or food bin

We collect food waste every week from all households in West Oxfordshire, it's taken to Cassington where it is recycled into electricity and fertiliser for use on local land.

Food waste bins

Householders are supplied with a:

  • 7 litre kitchen food caddy for leftovers, peelings and any other food waste
  • small 23 litre outside lidded bin for food waste to be transferred from your kitchen caddy and put out for collection, this is collected every week

Most communal bin users empty their kitchen caddy straight into a red communal food waste bin instead of having a separate outside food waste bins. If you do not have a food caddy or a food waste lidded bin at home and you would like one, you can order them for free online:

You don't need to line your caddy with anything but if you do you can line your food caddy with plastic bags (eg carrier bags, pedal bin liners, bread / salad bags) or compostable liners, newspaper or kitchen roll.

Any plastic bag you use to line your food waste will be removed before the food is processed and sent to an energy recovery facility.
