Community planning

West Oxfordshire District Council supports communities who would like to consider how they might be able to work proactively to shape their local place and address local issues.

The first stage of this work is to start a plan which is an opportunity to work with local residents to set out what the issues and priorities are for the community. Once there is a clear idea of what these issues and priorities are, the District Council will help work out what type of plan might be most appropriate to address these. There are two main types:

These are a useful starting point for considering the community as a whole and tend to address issues and priorities that do not require development.

These plans are appropriate where issues and priorities identified by the community are best tackled through development or use of land. If adopted, Neighbourhood Plans form part of Planning Policy for the area against which local planning applications will be assessed.

Help to decide which plan your community needs

It is possible for a community to undertake or combine both types of plan to give a really rounded vision for the community's future.

The Which Plan? Decision diagram will help communities decide which type of plan or plans are most appropriate for them.
