Do I need planning permission?
Whether you need to apply for planning permission depends on:
- what you wish to do
- the location of your property
- the existence of any previous applications (which might limit what can be done without permission)
Some types of minor building works do not require planning permission. This is called 'permitted development' and includes things like:
- small extensions
- the construction of certain types of outbuildings and
- the installation of solar panels
Permitted development rights do not apply to all properties and are restricted in Conservation Areas and for Listed Buildings. For useful planning and building guidance for common projects and to find out whether your project needs planning permission, please visit:
