From 2025, all businesses and organisations in England must separate recyclable materials from general waste.

What you need to do

You’ll need to separate:

• Paper & card
• Plastic
• Metal
• Glass
• Food waste
• Plastic film (from 2027)

What it means for businesses

Under the new legislation, all businesses will be required to separate recyclable materials and food waste from general waste.

Larger organisations, including businesses, schools, and hospitals, must comply by Monday 31 March 2025.

Smaller businesses, with fewer than 10 full-time employees, have until 31 March 2027 to comply.
