Small Business Grant Scheme

Levelling Up

Applications for the Small Business Grant Scheme are now closed as the available grants are fully subscribed. The scheme will reopen in April 2024. For further updates sign up to the Business Matters newsletter. Thank you to everyone who applied, we will be in touch shortly.

Capital grants of £5,000 are available for small businesses employing fewer than 10 full time equivalent (FTE) people.

The Small Business Grant Scheme includes an online business advice session and a capital grant of £5,000. Successful applicants must commit to both parts of the scheme – they must attend the advice session to receive the grant.

The grants are to help with the purchase of capital items (e.g. equipment, furniture, property improvements or other major material purchases) that will help businesses to grow and achieve one or more of the following outputs:

  • The creation or safeguarding of jobs
  • The creation of new enterprises and businesses
  • Increasing the number of visitors

You should apply if:

You have a clear business idea and need support to help your business grow.

Exclusions

The following businesses are not eligible for the BGS:

  • Businesses that are in administration, are insolvent or where a striking off notice has been made.
  • Projects that have received funding from:
    • The Farming in Protected Landscapes Programme
    • The Farming Investment Fund
    • The Platinum Jubilee Village Hall Improvement Grant Fund
  • Businesses which have already received grant payments that equal the maximum subsidy levels as set out in Subsidy Act 2022.

Advice sessions

The one to one advice sessions will be delivered by The Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP). They are an opportunity discuss your plans for the grant funding as well as any aspect of your business that you would like advice on with an advisor.

The first tranche of the Small Business Grant Scheme opened for applications on Monday 5 February 2024. There are only limited funds for this first tranche which will be available on a first come first serve basis. We will re-open the scheme in April 2024 for those not successful first time round.

The Small Business Grant Scheme is funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and Rural England Prosperity Fund. For more information about how we are using these funds in West Oxfordshire, please see: https://www.westoxon.gov.uk/prosperityfunds/
