Sustainable Warmth grant funding

Oxfordshire County Council is encouraging low-income households who are not connected to the mains gas grid or do not have mains gas heating, to register an interest for current and future Sustainable Warmth schemes. Please follow the link to Oxfordshire County Council's website: www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/retrofit. Due to reaching capacity, West Oxfordshire's Sustainable Warmth grant has now closed. You may also be eligible for other funding to save energy and improve the comfort of your home.

The closing date for applications to the West Oxfordshire Sustainable Warmth government grant scheme was 13 January 2023.

Sustainable Warmth is a government grant scheme which provides funding for low income households to upgrade energy inefficient homes.

Low income households can apply for funding to install a range of energy saving improvements to reduce energy use, make homes warmer and healthier, and keep energy costs under control.

These upgrades will reduce climate changing carbon emissions so are also good for the environment.

What energy improvements can be made?

Under the scheme you may be eligible for:

  • Improvements to insulation (loft, cavity and wall) and ventilation
  • Upgrades to a low-carbon heating system, for example replacing a gas or oil boiler with an air source heat pump (the new heating system cannot include a gas or oil boiler)
  • Heating controls
  • Solar PV panels to generate electricity
  • Energy efficient lighting

Approved installers are used. Homeowners do not have to contribute to any costs or pay back the grant afterwards. Tenants and landlords can also apply for funding.

What grants are available?

Sustainable Warmth funding is available for homes on or off mains gas. The grants available are:

Owner occupied properties

  • For eligible households on mains gas, grants are available of up to £10,000.
  • For homes not connected to mains gas, the grant is on a sliding scale from £10,000 to £25,000.

Privately rented properties

To qualify, tenants must meet the income eligibility and the landlord will need to contribute a minimum of one third towards the cost of the upgrades.

For privately rented properties connected to mains gas, the grant is up to £5,000.

For properties not connected to mains gas, the grant is on a sliding scale, from £10,000 to £16,666.  If costs exceed the maximum grant available, additional investment by the landlord is required.
